For the winter semester 2024/25, the Pastorales Forum proposes new doctoral and postdoctoral scholarships!


Five scholarships will be awarded to applicants from post-communist countries who qualify for a study at the University of Vienna or the Catholic Private University in Linz. The three-year scholarship can begin in October 2024. The successful applicants are required to live in Austria (Vienna or Linz) for the duration of their study. The monthly payment is €1,100.

  Application at the Pastorales Forum

If you would like to apply for a three-year scholarship, starting in 
Winter Semester, please send us the following documents by

the end of January of a given year (in German or in English):

  1. Essay on the topic of your project (about 3 pages of theses, objectives, procedure, raw outline), either dissertation or Habilitation (post-doc).
  2. CV with signature; postal address, telephone number, email address
  3. Copy of Matura (high-school-leaving) certificate + translation, copy of university diploma + translation
  4. Request of your bishop or religious order for granting a scholarship. From this letter it should be clear for which future activity this further education will qualify you.
  5. Letter of recommendation from the university professor about your academic suitability
  6. Declaration of commitment : In the case of a scholarship grant, you undertake to work for at least three years in your country of origin, ideally in the theological-academic or ecclesiastical sphere. If you fail to comply with this obligation and do not return to your country of origin, you are required to repay one third of the scholarship paid to you within the following five years to the Pastorales Forum (exceptions only by special agreement). The regulation also applies if you have not completed the planned course for which you have received a scholarship within five years. We ask you to formulate and sign this document yourself.

It is recommended that you start with your admission to the doctoral programme at the University of Vienna, we can only grant a fixed scholarship after a successful admission to the doctorate programme. Applicants will be then invited to an interview where they can present the project personally.
